News from Purdua Community

Meghalaya is one among the seven sisters of the North Eastern States of India. The community of Meghalaya is located in a place called Nongpoh, where we work with the Karbi Tribes. The people are very simple, kind, loving and warm hearted. They survive on the minimum things they have and mostly depend on nature for their sustenance.

We find joy in rendering our service to these people in the villages, church and in our own school.  We would like to share with you some of our activities.

Education: As we began the new academic year ,  all the captains of the school took the pledge.   Sr. Anima Minj our Headmistress handed over the badges to the students from classes I – X. Few programs were organized for our students to enable them to be more active, enthusiastic, take initiatives, to get in touch with oneself, become bold, fearless and sociable.

Social Awareness - An awareness program was conducted to educate people on nature and on being eco- friendly, caring for creation and having a vegetarian diet. An awareness Rally was organized around the village chanting slogans, “NO to smoking, tobacco”. The emphasis was to protect nature.

Spiritual formation - A Competition was organized for a week. It was based on the theme “Carmelites Saints” which included speeches, songs, dances, fashion show, fancy dress, rubik cube, drawing, handwriting, quiz, skits centered on Mother Mary. Children performed excellently and enjoyed themselve.

We try to find out different ways to be in communion with God, oneself, people around

 and Nature.

Ranchi News

Where there is a will there is a way...

In India, we, the Carmelite Missionaries, run a chool in one of the downtrodden areas where many are uneducated. Carmel School is located in the state of Ranchi. The sisters who run the school perform various activities, provide many opportunities, give quality education and focus on value education, all for the upliftment of the students. The young ones enjoy studying as well as discover and develop their talents and skills. With enthusiasm and zeal, they participated in a Throwball Tournament, held at the Zonal level in our school premises for the first time.

On 23rd and 24th June, ASISC Ranchi Zone, association of ICSE schools had organized two days, Throwball Tournament for girls hosted by our CARMEL SCHOOL, BRAMBE, RANCHI. 19 teams participated from different schools within Ranchi. Fr. Thomas Powathil was the Chief guest for the opening ceremony, he was escorted by our school band.

Our team of students under 17 years of age won the match and participated in the semifinal and final. Though there were very tough matches with St. Charles School and Cluny Convent school, our students defeated them in the final and won the first position in the Tournament. We are joyful and proud of their achievement.

The Closing ceremony was very solemn. Trophies were awarded by the president of the Association, Mr. Gautam Sharma and Sr. Manisha Vaghela, our School Principal. Carmel School Brambe, finally organised the ICSE Throwball Tournament and it became the talk of the town.

Hearty congratulations to the Principal and Staff for their tireless efforts and systematic arrangements of the Tournament.
